Anti-Valentine Entry

The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators held a contest to create an anti-valentine illustration. I thought the idea of a little girl frustrated with the results of her "He loves me... he loves me not" petal-plucking was an endearing way to illustrate the concept.

It's not often that a picture of a sad or angry little girl could bring such a smile to my face. I really thought the concept was interesting. I especially liked her facial expression.

I love the muted color tones and the old-time outfit. It has a Kate Greenaaway feel to it. Nice!

This is great, Jen. Love the composition, the rendering, and, most importantly -the storytelling! I think it's one of the best I've seen from you so far.

Hope you had a happy Birthday.

I very much enjoyed the cute little detail. The kitty playing with that tiny little bug on the blade of grass amused me and brought a smile to my face.
