This is an image from the book I illustrated There was an Old Woman who Swallowed a Fly. My friends and family have a great affection for this cow- despite it's implied fate.
the global tracker on my blog tells me who visits, where they are from and which link or search engine referred them. at least once a day i get a visit from someone who did a google search on jen+long. thanks for driving traffic to my blog. :-)
yes i do like your cow very much. i like the composition and the play with perspective, the attention to detail and the graphic repetition of the clouds and how they are echoed in the pattern on the cow's hide (or is it vice-versa?). and i love the "game" of the lady's shadow coming as a second read.
i wish you hadn't gone so dark with the shadow. if the cow's fur is white or creamy colored, the shadow wouldn't suddenly go black like that. for me, it flattens out and i believe you've missed an opportuity to play a bit more with the shapes of the cow hide pattern and the color changes as the shadow moves across.
I love this piece. I am a 3rd grade teacher. I'm teaching Regions of Georgia and the students are recreating the story using ME as the "guinea pig" old woman. They are using pictures of my face and clipart bodies to recreate the plants/animals I would eat from each region. I was googling clipart to use for my body and searching for pictures of "the little old lady..." when I discovered your artwork! Fantastic! My kids love Phineas and Ferb and are huge fans of the artwork/show. I have a minor in art and really love computer graphics! Would love to meet you sometime!!!
