Anti-Valentine Entry
The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators held a contest to create an anti-valentine illustration. I thought the idea of a little girl frustrated with the results of her "He loves me... he loves me not" petal-plucking was an endearing way to illustrate the concept.

Jen, This illustration is so adorable! I love all the little details! Let's just say...I feel her pain! ha. ha. Great job!
Barbara
Absolutely beautiful! Such a cute idea and cute little girl... She looks a bit familiar. :)
It's not often that a picture of a sad or angry little girl could bring such a smile to my face. I really thought the concept was interesting. I especially liked her facial expression.
Very nice, very very nice....I don't know...you and Barb will be tough competition. Good thing I didn't submit. Having won the competition before. HAHAHAHAHA Good Job Jen!
Such a sweet illustration- I hope whoever she's pining over comes to his senses!

I love the muted color tones and the old-time outfit. It has a Kate Greenaaway feel to it. Nice!
Really charming illustration Jen, good luck with the competition! I wanted to try to do this contest too but somehow the time flew by and I never got around to it....oh well....
This is great, Jen. Love the composition, the rendering, and, most importantly -the storytelling! I think it's one of the best I've seen from you so far.
Hope you had a happy Birthday.
Thanks Vince. Nice to have you back.
Really enjoyed this illustration- very clever narrative. Good work!
don't hate jen.

Thanks for the good advice, but sometimes there's a thin line between the two.
Great stuff Jen - Far better than what was picked IMHO. Really nice work!

I very much enjoyed the cute little detail. The kitty playing with that tiny little bug on the blade of grass amused me and brought a smile to my face.
